Code Enforcement

Keeping the city in a visually attractive, safe, and healthful state is an important responsibility of this department. Inspectors strive to remove safety hazards, unsightly debris, unlicensed/abandoned vehicles, and deteriorated structures within the city.

Inspections & Permits

The Building Inspectors issue construction-related permits and perform construction inspections for all new construction and major renovations to existing structures. New construction inspections include footings, concrete, plumbing, electrical, natural gas, structural, final building inspections, and certificate of occupancy inspections before the building can be occupied for residency or for commercial use. Once installed, all major household appliances such as water heaters and furnaces, whether related to replacement of an existing appliance or installed during new construction, must be inspected by the Building Inspectors.

To schedule an inspection, call the office of Building Inspections at (660) 269-8705, ext. 2041 or 2042, or e-mail here.

Residential occupancy inspections must be scheduled with and performed by the Fire Department separately.

Demolitions

The Building Inspectors strive to make the City of Moberly an attractive and safe place to live. Demolition of dilapidated structures within the City is a primary method of achieving this goal. A Demolition Permit Application may be completed at City Hall. Nominal fees apply at the time of application.

For more information or to report a structure that is unsafe, please contact the Building Inspectors at (660) 269-8705, ext. 2041 or 2042.
