Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month Proclamation
Mayor Brandon L. Lucas proclaimed February 2026 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month in the City of Moberly. The proclamation highlights the urgent need to address the widespread and often unreported issue of teen dating violence. He was joined by representatives from Safe Passage, a non-profit agency in Moberly that provides services and shelter for individuals and families who have experienced domestic and/or sexual abuse.
According to national data, one in three young people will experience an abusive or unhealthy relationship, and approximately 1.5 million high school boys and girls report being hit or physically harmed by a romantic partner each year. Additionally, one in five high school students report experiencing physical and/or sexual abuse by someone they are dating.
Along with Safe Passage, the City of Moberly emphasizes the importance of educating young people about healthy relationships and equipping them with skills to prevent abuse. The proclamation calls for increased training to help identify signs of dating violence and raising community awareness to empower young people, support victims, and build safer environments for all.
Throughout February, the City encourages local schools, organizations, and families to participate in awareness efforts, share resources, and engage in conversations that promote healthy relationships and prevent abuse. In addition to the proclamation, the Depot Park Clock Tower will glow orange throughout the month to draw attention to the issue and show solidarity with victims.
