City Announces Appointment of Bobby Calvert to Chief of Police

(Moberly, MO, 6/9/25) - The City of Moberly and its Police Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Bobby Calvert to Chief of Police. The City conducted a comprehensive, internal needs assessment and employment search in preparation for filling the role.

"It is a privilege to congratulate Bobby Calvert on his appointment as Chief of Police,” said City Manager Michael Bugalski. “He has distinguished himself as a trusted leader and valued colleague. The loyalty he inspires is a testament to both his tremendous potential in this role, and the strong support he has within our department. The outpouring of community support for his efforts has been overwhelming, and we look forward with great anticipation to all he will accomplish.”

Calvert began his law enforcement career after graduating from the Moberly Area Community College Law Enforcement Training Center in 2000. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Bellevue University and is also a graduate of the Northwestern University Police Staff and Command School.

“I am honored to be appointed Chief of Police,” said Calvert. “I want to thank City Manager Michael Bugalski for the opportunity and the City Council for their confidence in this decision. I’m also grateful to Randolph County Sheriff Andy Boggs and his staff for their continued support throughout this transition process.”

“I’ve dedicated countless hours to my profession and education in preparation for this moment,” Calvert continued. “Thank you to the staff of the Moberly Police Department for sharing their input during the selection process. Most of all, thank you to my family for their unwavering support throughout my 24-year career. I’m looking forward to serving the citizens of Moberly for many years to come.”

In addition to a decade in other departments, Calvert brings 14 years of experience with the Moberly Police Department, including corporal, sergeant, and his most recent role as Interim Chief. His prior assignments include serving as a Narcotics Detective, SWAT Commander, DARE Officer, and K9 Officer. He is also a longtime advocate for officer training and development, having served as a Missouri Department of Public Safety Generalist Instructor for 15 years, a Field Training Officer, and a Defensive Tactics Instructor.

Outside of his professional role, Calvert is a husband, father, and grandfather, and enjoys teaching martial arts, holding a black belt in Judo and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

A swearing in ceremony will be held at the City Council meeting on Monday, June 16th.
