The West 43 Wilderness Area is over 43 acres of undeveloped land. The West 43 adjoins existing park property around Water Works Lake, and is located immediately west of Rothwell Park and immediately south of the Howard Hills Athletic Complex and west of Water Works Lake.
With a unique mix of prairie grasses, forest, and wetlands, the wilderness area located at 1708 County Road 2245 has primitive trails for recreational enthusiasts of all stripes from horse riders and mountain bikers to hikers and bird watchers. Hours of operation are from 7 a.m. to sunset and rules are posted at the site. If the gate is closed during these hours, contact the Park Ranger at 660-998-0143 for assistance.
Immediately west of the Athletic Complex, travel south on the gravel County Road 2245. Follow the gravel road to the second bend. The gated entrance to the West 43 Wilderness Area is on the north side of the road.
Follow Fisk Avenue west out of Moberly. After the road turns to gravel, take the first gravel road north (County Road 2245). The gated entrance to the West 43 Wilderness Area is at the next bend.
